MOHS Hardness Test Kit Industrial Use
- Hardness table for 300 minerals
- A 100 grit grinding stone to ensure points stay sharp
- Robust, molded plastic carrying case
- With a magnet to test magnetic materials
- Four double-ended picks with eight Hardness picks
MOH’S Hardness Test Kit was initially developed by Mineralab with the purpose of testing minerals; however, the same concept can be applied to test industrial materials.
This updated version of MOH’S Hardness Test Kit has been optimised for Concrete Hardness Testing so rest assured this test kit for industrial use will get the job done.
Use MOH’S Hardness Test Kit for “scratch testing” substances in order to ascertain their hardness based on the MOH’s hardness scale. The scale is ranged from 1 to 10, with diamond being the hardest at 10 and talc being the softest at 1.
Suitable for Usage On:
- Concrete
- Faucet Finishes
- Touch Screen
- Plastic materials
- Glass materials
- Countertop materials
- Flooring products
- More
MOH’S Hardness Test Kit has been made with a molded plastic case so it is capable of combat rough use in an industrial environment.
With a magnet, MOH’S Hardness Test Kit can test magnetic rocks such as magnetite and pyrrhotite. It also has a streak Plate to test mineral’s streak color.
This product has a hardness table for 300 minerals.
Furthermore, MOH’S Hardness Test Kit has appropriate instructions for it to be used on industrial materials and has specially made hardness tables that cover a range of common materials.
This hardness test kit has non-tarnishing Nickel-Plated Brass Vise Holders for the Hardness Points. It also comes with a 100 grit grinding stone to ensure the points stay sharp.
Tips for Usage:
- The hardness points need to be sharp
- During a scratch test, the Hardness point will either catch the surface or dig into it, this indicates an authentic scratch.
- If the Hardness point slips across or leaves an easily rubbed away streak the scratch is not valid.
Method of Use:
- Pick a Hardness Pick, each equipped and marked on the ends with two different MOH’s Hardness points
- Hold the Hardness Pick at a 70-degree angle (like writing with a pen) and use medium force to press down across the surface of the material
- Scratch a smooth surface made of the material you are testing using the picks of differing indicated hardness
- If it scratches the material then repeat this process with a softer point until you can’t scratch it
- For example, if a No.4 pick scratches the material, but a No.3 pick doesn’t then the material has a hardness of 3.5
