LTP Clear Wax | Polishing vs Waxing

When researching whether to polish or wax your surface, you can be hit with very conflicting information at first.

That’s why, in this blog, we are going to give you the necessary information that you need!

Wax or Polish? With LTP Clear wax.

LTP CLEAR WAX

LTP Clear Wax is a blend of three types of wax, formulated into a soft paste for a clear finish.

Due to this formulation, LTP Clear Wax treats the surface with a dazzling shine and strong resilient layer.

This layer will protect surfaces from water, dirt, dust and any other common household contaminants.

LTP Clear Wax comes ready to use and can be simply applied using cloth prior to polishing.

Despite being easy to use, this wax polish will provide top-quality results that are up to a professional standard.

Suitable for use on travertine, limestone, sandstone, slate, tumbled marble, flamed granite, terracotta, quarry and brick.

POLISHING VS WAXING

Both waxing and polishing floors have the same essential functions to protect and shine up your floors.

They both can be also applied using the exact same application method.

However, unfortunately, this is where the similarities end.

The major difference between waxing and polishing is that floor wax is often used as a protective sealant, whereas floor polish is used to shine and restore.

For example, you wouldn’t use wax to rejuvenate your wood floors; you’d use polish.

Floor wax will give your floor a ‘softer’ look compared to a polisher, making it an incredible choice for homes that want to maintain the original appearance of their hardwood floors.

When restoring the shine of your hardwood floors, it’s best to get a top-quality, professional-grade floor polish.

HOW DOES LTP CLEAR WAX WORK?

The surface to be treated should be completely clean and dried with also any pre-polish sealer thoroughly cured.

Stir well before application.

Apply LTP Clear Wax with a soft fluff-free cloth ensuring that the area of application is manageable.

Then immediately begin to buff the wax to a shine using a short-haired brush, soft cloth or mechanical polisher.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On higher absorbency floors, the wax may be absorbed into the surface unevenly.

Therefore, when treating higher absorbency floors, it may be necessary to reduce the absorbency by pre-applying a suitable impregnating sealer.

LTP Clear Wax can be applied to surfaces that have been impregnated with LTP Boiled Linseed Oil, Stone Oil, Mattstone and Colour Intensifier.

The type of impregnator used will depend on the type of material that is being sealed.

COVERAGE

On the majority of floors, LTP Clear Wax can cover up to 10 squared metres, coating the surface twice, with 1-litre of a can!

THE AFTERCARE OF LTP CLEAR WAX

To maintain the surface to its full potential, the surface will need to be washed with LTP Waxwash.

Areas, where the seal has been worn or damaged, will need to be re-waxed.

In which case, apply a fresh coat of LTP Clear Wax to the surface should it begin to show signs of stain absorption.

This should be done after the surface has been washed and allowed to thoroughly dry.

In some cases, fully hardened LTP Clear Wax may sometimes dry slightly opaque, which turn slightly white.

Especially if it is over-applied or not correctly buffed. This whiteness may also show up more on darker, rougher tiles.

Therefore, we always advise testing on an inconspicuous area prior to general application.

WHAT TO AVOID

Do not apply in direct sunlight or in a temperature exceeding 25˚C.

Don’t apply in cold weather, in which case it may help to warm the can in tepid water.

Use only in well-ventilated areas.
