LTP Crackle Glaze Protector | What Is Crazing?
LTP Crackle Glaze Protector | What Is Tile Crazing?
Have you ever wondered how to protect a crackle-glaze and the best product to protect it with?
In this blog, we will go through LTP Crackle Glaze Protector and how it can solve all of your problems.
WHAT DOES CRAZING A TILE MEAN?
Crazing is intentionally giving a ceramic tile a 'crackle finish' - small hairline cracks on glazed surfaces to form a crack pattern.
This process is caused by thermal expansion, fired at a specific temperature to create an antiqued crackled finish on the surface.
DO I NEED TO SEAL WITH MY TILES LTP CRACKLE GLAZE PROTECTOR?
The glaze has microscopic cracks and gaps, leaving the surface vulnerable to dirt and grout. They can get into these holes and cause staining.
It is practically mandatory to seal crackle glazes.
Before grouting or cutting the tiles, we recommend sealing with a single coat as grout can also enter these small cracks and become almost impossible to remove.
LTP CRACKLE GLAZE PROTECTOR
Here we now bring the solution...the sealer of your dreams.
LTP Crackle Glaze Protector is an impregnating sealer formulated for ceramic tiles that have porous crackle glaze and grout joints.
This sealer forms a clear colourless barrier, helping protect porous tiles from penetration by water, dirt, oil, grease, limescale and other household contaminants.
It is also only for interior use only.
HOW TO USE LTP CRACKLE GLAZE PROTECTOR
First of all, ensure the surface is completely clean and dry.
Any tiles that are to be wet cut should be protected with at least one coat of LTP Crackle Glaze Protector.
Once the tiles have been fixed and before grouting, apply at least one coat with a sponge or soft cloth.
Then immediately begin to buff into the surface using a buffing cloth. This should be done until all excess is removed.
Leave for a minimum of two hours before grouting with normal grouts.
However,
if coloured or pigmented grouts are used, apply at least a further three coats and do not buff off the excess.
Allow 2 hours between each coat, therefore leaving the grout to harden.
Optionally and once dry, apply a further coat of sealer to the surface also covering the joints.
Then after two days, the surface can be cleaned as normal.
Remove any excess from non-absorbent surfaces using a buffing cloth.
This should be left for approximately 30-40 minutes and will become fully effective after approximately two days.
COVERAGE
A 500-millilitre bottle of LTP Crackle Glaze Protector will cover approximately 5 sq.m per, giving the surface two coats!
AFTERCARE
LTP Stonewash Spray is recommended to wash the tiles on a semi-regular basis.
WHAT TO AVOID
Do not breathe vapours. Use only in well-ventilated areas.
Due to variations in crackle glaze tiles-always test the product first to ascertain the correct number of coats to be applied.
