How to Clean and Re-Seal Terracotta Flooring - Stone Restoration, Protection and Maintenance

Terracotta Flooring Refurbishment - Product List 

We recommend using SRP Heavy-Duty Tile and Grout Cleaner to clean the surface. This powerful alkaline cleaner is best suited for getting rid of most oil, grease, grime and standard contaminants found on stone surfaces. Additionally, it provides a 'deep clean' by removing much of the ingrained dirt. On top of that, the cleaner will not harm the tile or grout.  You will also need SRP Pink ph Neutral Cleaner. An everyday cleaner perfect for washing away stubborn resins and stains without leaving streaks or marks. After use, surfaces are left with a pleasant aroma.  Next, you need SRP Enrich and Seal to rejuvenate your terracotta surfaces and protect them from future contamination. It provides a natural finish to stone flooring.  Finally, you need Klindex Stone Soap to maintain the results of this treatment. 

How to clean the terracotta surface

1. Dilute SRP Heavy-Duty Tile and Grout Cleaner

For standard deep cleaning, dilute the solution 4 or 5:1 with clean warm water. If there are thicker or more stubborn layers of waxy polish, you can mix the HDT&GC to stripping strength (2 parts water to 1 part cleaner).

2. Apply the Deep Cleaner

Apply the diluted cleaner to the terracotta with caution. 

3. Leave for 10 minutes

Leave 10 minutes for the solution to act. However, during this time the solution mustn’t dry. Add more solution if necessary to prevent the drying. 

4. Scrub the surface

We suggest using a white nylon pad, scrub brush or scrub machine.

5. Remove the solution

Get rid of the cleaning solution using a wet vacuum or mop. Afterwards, give the surface a thorough rinse with clean water. 

6. Apply SRP PinK

Finally, after deep cleaning such floors with all these solutions the golden rule is to remove all traces of chemicals. This is done with a final scrub and rinse using SRP Pink pH Neutral Cleaner. Dilute the neutral tile cleaner depending on the condition of the terracotta. Then, apply the cleaning solution to the surface.

7. Leave to act

Unlike SRP heavy-duty cleaner, this should only take 1 -2 minutes.

8. Wipe the surface

Using a microfibre cloth, wipe the surface.

How to Re-Seal the Terracotta Surface

9. Apply SRP Enrich and Seal

Shake the bottle well before use. It is important to note that you should never pour this floor sealer directly onto the surface. Apply it using an applicator, making sure there is an even coat.  When applying Enrich and Sealer to your terracotta, do not allow the solution to run or drip onto the surface. 

10. Get rid of the excess

Quickly remove any excess using a microfibre cloth or paper towel. This must be done before the excess dries. 

11. Apply a second coat

Apply a 2nd coat of sealer 48 hours later if you want it darker.

Maintain the Terracotta Surface

After completing the process of cleaning and re-sealing your terracotta flooring, continue to maintain the surface using Klindex Stone Soap. For daily cleaning dilute the product with water, 50 - 100 ml to 10 litres of water.
